Derrick Purdie
Public Safety Constable
Derrick Purdie started his career at Delaware Tech in 2017 as a public safety constable after serving as a police officer. Outside of work, Purdie is involved in church and loves to spend time with family and friends. His hobbies include track, basketball, and softball. Purdie is not only a Delaware Tech employee, but a student majoring in human Services. He plans to pursue a bachelor's degree from Wilmington University and eventually go on to earn a master’s degree.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?
"Becoming a student and inspiring other students to achieve their goals."
Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?
"To give back to the community as much as possible, whether it be through encouragement, guidance, or communication."
Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?
"The experience of my first day was welcoming; it was like a family."
Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?
"I furthered my education; additionally, I am more understanding, diligent, and caring."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech thus far?
"My favorite memory is when a particular student occasionally would come to me because she was disappointed or discouraged by the failure of her hopes and expectations with her exams. However, we always prayed together, and I inspired her to have confidence in herself. She is now a Delaware Tech alumna."

"People do not know that I am determined to further my educational goals."
